Livable: Ashland Treasures
Ashland is one of the most amazing livable communities I know. We have a wealth of resources and treasures that make Ashland not just a place to have a home, but a place to really live.
Here is a list of just some of our amazing treasures:
- The Town Forest
- The River Walk
- The Ashland Emergency Fund
- Warren Woods
- The Farmer's Market
- Ashland Day
- The Corner Spot
- The Ashland Library
- The Garden Club
I'm sure everyone can think of several more that I've left off. It's important to recognize that there's a good mix of old and new. Going forward, the town must both protect our existing treasures while supporting and building new ones.
So what new treasures do I envision?
The Upper Charles Trail: This is a multi-use off-road trail that will be part of a five-town loop. Milford and Holliston have completed their portions, which have been proven to be huge assets to their communities. Ashland has a plan, and it's time to make it a priority to move forward.
The Downtown Fire Station: As we move into the new public safety building, we will have the old downtown buildings available for new purposes. The fire station building needs to be transformed into something awesome, not just sold to a developer.
Ashland Bark Park: The energy and organization working to build a dog park in Ashland is wonderful. I can't wait to play with my dog there and meet other dog owners. (Visit ashlandbarkpark.org)
Cadilac Paint Park: The town has been slowly working towards turning this old industrial site into a park. It's time to make this a priority and get this done. (Details from the town and a design competition.)
Other Ideas: I don't pretend to have all the ideas. I'll listen to the ideas from everyone in the community and work to support an amazing future! Tell me what you want to see for the next great Ashland treasure.
