Experience

As a new member of the Ashland Select Board, I will bring a wide variety of local experience with me.

I was first elected to the Planning Board in 2005, and completed my third term in 2020. I've was the chair for the last three years I was on the board, and several other times before that. While on the Planning Board, we've seen a wide variety of projects, some good, some not so good. Often we haven't had the authority to outright reject projects, but we've always worked to ensure changes that make the project fit in better with our town. Throughout the process, we always listen to the residents who have concerns and questions, and I've made sure questions were answered, and when possible, concerns were addressed.

I'm currently a member of the Conservation Commission where I help review projects in town for compliance with wetlands protection and stormwater management.

I have served as the Planning Board representative to the MetroWest Regional Collaborative. This organization includes members from the Planning Boards and Select Boards of nine communities. Through our meetings, I've developed relationships with leaders in neighboring towns, and I've learned that they deal with many of the same issues and are a valuable resource for ideas and solutions.

Before there was a Sustainability Committee, I organized volunteers to work to adopt the stretch energy code, one of the major steps to becoming a Green Community. I continued this work as one of the founding members of the committee. After we achieved our Green Community status and I had joined yet another committee, I stepped down and have been impressed with the energy and new ideas that the Sustainability Committee has continued to show.

I have been a member of the Upper Charles Trail Committee from its formation. We have a charter to build a multi-use trail connecting to Hopkinton and Sherborn, with many important locations in Ashland, as part of a five-town loop. Milford and Holliston have found their portions of the trail have been tremendous assets to their communities. While we're thrilled with the Trolly Brook Train that is the first section of our trail to be built, we're looking forward to building more sections as we get easments and funding.

I have been involved in many community activities. I've been a part of Green Up Ashland Day from the start, and my family looks forward to being part of the efforts every year. I've attended nearly every Town Meeting since moving to Ashland. I'm a charter member of the Ashland Bike Club, and spend as many sunny Saturdays as I can cycling around the area. I can often be found at the Farmer's Market, Corner Spot, or the Ashland Library.
